COVID-19: Do you know the reason why North Korea is coronavirus free?

As the whole world try to contain the novel pandemic outbreaks in Wuhan China few months ago, Over 2 million cases have been recorded all over the world, with more than 140 thousand deaths.

Surprisingly, North Korea, an Asian country who shares border with China (82,696 confirmed cases), Russia (27,938 confirmed cases) and South Korea (10,635 confirmed cases), have not recorded a single case of coronavirus. How is this possible?

“Not one single person has been affected with the novel coronavirus in our country so far”, said Pak Myong Su, the director of North Korea’s anti-pandemic headquarters

According to France 24, The claim was disputed by General Robert Abrams, commander of United States Forces Korea, who said it was “impossible” that the secretive authoritarian state did not have a single case of the virus.

“In all likelihood there have been a number of unconfirmed cases,” agreed Wertz, but added that a lack of testing may mean that any outbreak may have gone undetected.

Nevertheless, North Korea’s prompt action in sealing its borders and imposing quarantine measures early on in the coronavirus outbreak could mean that a large outbreak has been avoided, at least for now.

“Back in January, North Korea sealed its borders and began imposing internal quarantines even before the city of Wuhan in China was fully sealed off, which in hindsight looks like it was actually smart for the most part,” said Wertz.

With this, I think countries in the world are experiencing a high daily increase in number of coronavirus cases because they fail to take proactive measures when they had the chance to.

If all neighbouring countries that surrounds China, and all other countries have imposed a lockdown immediately the virus broke out, maybe the number of confirmed cases will not be as much as it is presently.

Nevertheless, what has happened has happened. The whole world should unite together, by obeying the ‘Stay at Home’ order and every other precautionary measure made, in order to conquer the deadly virus.
